As chuvas fortes que atingem Belém estão trazendo sérios problemas para a população, além de transtornos no trânsito e risco de assaltos, o alagamento nas ruas é o principal reflexo desse fenômeno climático – a chuva.
Estes alagamentos são causados pela obstrução dos canais e bacias com lixos e entulhos como carcaças de sofá, geladeira, telefone público, aros de bicicleta, animais mortos, pneus e até sucatas de carros. Conseqüentemente, com o alto índice pluviométrico, os canais que estão entupidos não conseguem escoar a água da chuva, formando pequenos lagos nas ruas, avenidas e travessas de Belém.
A Secretaria Municipal de Saneamento (Sesan) esclareceu que a manutenção da rede de drenagem é feita desde setembro do ano passado, com a Operação Inverno 2008. Desde então, já foram retiradas mais de 230 mil toneladas de lama, lixo e entulho; e por dia é retirada dos canais 1.880 toneladas e garantiu que a causa dos alagamentos é a quantidade de água das chuvas e não a falta de drenagem nos canais.
Os bairros do Jurunas, Cidade Velha, Cremação, Condor, Guamá, Marco, Terra Firme e Canudos foram os catalogados como os que mais sofrem com os alagamentos, devido o canal do Tucunduba e a bacia da Estrada Nova.
Com isso, conseguiram identificar os pontos com maior índice de entulhos e os canais recordistas são o da Vileta, Timbó, Quintino Bocaiúva, Generalíssimo Deodoro, Dr. Moraes, Tucunduba e Lago Verde.
Além do alagamentos, as águas poluídas que transbordam nos canais e invadem as casas podem trazer doença para a população como a leptospirose, transmitida pela urina dos ratos não-domesticados e que vivem nos esgotos. E prejuízo financeiro como a perda de eletrodomésticos, móveis e automóveis.
Outro problema que amedontra a população é o risco de assaltos nessas áreas com maior índice de alagamento, onde os assaltantes aproveitam para roubar os pertences das pessoas que estão nos engarrafamentos ou nos pontos alagados.
Além de entulhos, ratos, serpentes já foram encontradas dentro das casas trazidas pela água da chuva. O Corpo de Bombeiros já registrou 60 casos de desde janeiro deste ano e uma das causas para a invasão desses anfíbios é o desmatamento e o alagamento na cidade.
As algumas espécies de serpentes se adaptam com facilidade ao meio urbano e nas proximidades de áreas alagadas e cercadas por lixo e entulho, de acordo com a notícia publicada na Agência Museu Goeldi. Caso apareça cobra em seu terreno, deve-se acionar Deve-se fazer é acionar os órgãos competentes como o Corpo de Bombeiros, Ibama e Secretaria Municipal de Saúde e Meio Ambiente (Semma) para que possam tomar as medidas cabíveis à situação.
O Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia ainda prevê muita chuva forte para Belém até o final do mês e segundo o site Pará 30 graus, o índice pluviométrico de Belém para abril é de 251,40mm, corresponde a 69,83% da média mensal que é de 360,0 mm.
